Mystic, CT — August 2026 — Greython Construction is proud to announce that it has been selected by General Dynamics Electric Boat to serve as General Contractor for the construction of a new Clearspan Building Structure at 25 Norwich-Westerly Road in Stonington, Connecticut.
The approximately 36,000-square-foot, multi-purpose facility will support General Dynamics Electric Boat’s continued growth and expansion throughout the Groton and Stonington area.
The project began with a challenging four-acre, fully wooded site. Greython’s work included clearing the property and preparing the site for construction, followed by extensive grading operations involving significant cuts and fills to establish the required building and site elevations.
As grading progressed, the project team encountered ledge rock requiring removal. Working collaboratively with General Dynamics Electric Boat and Greython’s site contractor, the team determined that hammering and crushing the ledge on site was the most practical approach.
Following completion of the sitework, Greython will construct a substantial cast-in-place concrete foundation system for the new Clearspan structure. The foundation will incorporate approximately 70 tons of reinforcing steel and 1,760 cubic yards of concrete, requiring careful planning, coordination, and execution to meet the project’s demanding schedule and structural requirements.
A key component of the project will be the close coordination between Greython Construction, General Dynamics Electric Boat, and the building fabricator and erector. With the Clearspan structure being erected following completion of the foundation, precision in the foundation layout, embedded components, and anchor locations will be critical to ensure proper fit and efficient installation of the building structure.
The project is being delivered on an aggressive, fast-track schedule of approximately four months, requiring close coordination, proactive planning, and efficient execution throughout all phases of construction.
“We are proud to have been selected by General Dynamics Electric Boat for this project,” said Kyle Klewin of Greython Construction. “The combination of a challenging site, significant concrete and structural requirements, utility considerations, and an aggressive four-month schedule makes this an
exciting project for our team. The collaboration between Electric Boat, Greython, and our trade partners has been critical to developing practical solutions in the field, and we look forward to successfully delivering this facility.”
