POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Senior Accountant plays a pivotal role in maintaining the financial health of Greython by overseeing accounting operations related to numerous construction projects. This includes managing the general ledger, preparing accurate financial statements, and ensuring compliance with GAAP and internal Company policies. The role demands close collaboration with project managers to track budgets, monitor job costs, and analyze project profitability, ensuring that financial data aligns with operational performance.

In addition to core accounting duties, the Senior Accountant is responsible for reconciling accounts, managing fixed assets, and supporting tax compliance, including sales, use, and payroll taxes. They play a key role in audit preparation, providing necessary documentation, and addressing auditor inquiries. The position also involves maintaining and improving internal controls to safeguard Company assets and ensure the integrity of financial reporting.

The Senior Accountant must be proficient in construction-specific accounting software such as SAGE and may supervise junior accounting staff, offering mentorship and guidance. Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to meet tight deadlines are essential for success in this position. This role typically reports to the Controller or CFO and contributes to strategic financial planning and decision-making within the finance/accounting departments.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Review and approve subcontractor and vendor invoices to ensure accuracy and compliance within contract terms

  • Track and analyze work-in-progress (WIP) schedules to support accurate revenue recognition and forecasting

  • Coordinate monthly project cost reviews with project managers and operations teams

  • Maintain and reconcile construction loan draws and funding schedules with lenders and internal stakeholders

  • Prepare and submit financial reports for bonding and insurance requirements specific to construction projects

  • Monitor compliance with reporting and payroll requirements, where and when applicable

  • Assist in the implementation and optimization of ERP systems tailored to construction accounting

  • Support cash flow forecasting and management by analyzing receivables, payables, and project middling cycles

  • Ensure timely and accurate billing to clients, including progress billings and retainage tracking

  • Collaborate with estimating and procurement teams to align financial tracking with project budgets

  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to streamline accounting processes and enhance reporting accuracy

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license is preferred but not required

  • Specializations or certifications in construction accounting (i.e., CFMA or AICPA, construction-specific courses) is a strong asset

  • 5+ years of experience in general ledger accounting, month-end close, and financial statement preparation

  • Extensive knowledge of multi-entity accounting and intercompany transactions

  • Familiarity with sales/use tax, payroll tax, and construction-specific tax items

  • Experienced in understanding of construction contracts and their impact on financial reporting and compliance

KNOWLEDGE | SKILLS | ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting standards

  • Deep understanding of tracking and allocating costs to specific projects, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractors

  • Familiarity with AIA billing, retainage, and progress billing

  • Ability to analyze budgets and project financial performance

  • Knowledge of tax compliance including sales, use, and payroll taxes

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to meet strict deadlines and compliance standards

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to lift and carry items up to 25 pounds

  • Read and interpret documents, computer screens, and other written materials

  • Proficiency in typing and data entry, with ability to use keyboard for extended periods

  • Ability to sit at a desk for prolonged periods

  • Ability to reach overhead and below the waist, occasional bending and stooping, and perform repetitive tasks

  • Adhere to requirements to work in an office environment

  • Ability to work in an office setting, and potential need for jobsite/vendor/other visits as needed

IT REQUIREMENTS:

  • General knowledge and understanding of Microsoft Office technology, specifically Excel

  • Accounting software; QuickBooks, SAP, SAGE, or other ERP system

  • Procore knowledge a plus

  • General ability to utilize cellular phone/Laptop/iPad or tablet for work

  • Drop Box or similar shared drive knowledge
