POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Rough Carpenter at Greython is responsible for constructing the structural framework of buildings, including walls, floors, and roofs, using wood, metal, and other construction materials. This role involves interpreting blueprints and plans, measuring and cutting materials, and assembling components to meet project specifications. The Rough Carpenter plays a critical role in the early stages of construction, ensuring that structures are level, plumb, and built to code.

In this position, the Rough Carpenter frames walls, installs subflooring, erects scaffolding, and secures temporary supports. The position requires proficiency with hand and power tools, as well as the ability to work safely and efficiently in a fast-paced environment. The Rough Carpenter often collaborates with other trades and must be able to adapt to changing site conditions and project timelines and requirements.

Successful Rough Carpenter’s will have a strong understanding of construction methods, excellent problem-solving skills, and the physical stamina to perform demanding tasks. Prior experience in framing or structural carpentry is typically required, along with a commitment to safety and quality workmanship. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Understand construction drawings and specifications to accurately plan and execute framing tasks

  • Use hand and power tools to cut lumber, plywood, and other materials to precise dimensions

  • Construct walls, floors, ceilings, and roofs using wood or metal studs, joists, and beams

  • Set up scaffolding, shoring, and other temporary structures to ensure safety and stability during construction

  • Verify all framing is level, plumb, and square, meeting building codes and project specifications

  • Keep tools in good working condition and ensure proper use and safe storage on the jobsite

  • Adhere to Company and OSHA safety standards, including the use of PPE and safe work practices

  • Perform tasks in different weather environments and adapt to changing site conditions

  • Identify and resolve issues related to framing, material defects, or site challenges efficiently

  • Share knowledge and techniques with less experienced carpenters or general laborers to support team development

  • Record measurements, material usage, and completed tasks for project tracking and reporting

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Vocational or technical training preferred in carpentry, construction technology, or building trades, with hands-on instruction

  • Apprenticeship programs, typically 3-4 years, combining classroom and on-the-job training

  • 2-5 years of extensive carpentry experience

  • Completion of OSHA 10-hour construction safety course is encouraged

  • Previous experience or knowledge in the construction or similar trade industry is a plus

  • Experience using hand and power tools or familiarity

  • Previous experience working with a team and taking direction from others such as more experienced co-workers and supervisors

KNOWLEDGE | SKILLS | ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Ability to lift materials and perform repetitive tasks

  • Familiarity with hand tools and power tools

  • Ability to understand instructions and communicate clearly with team members and supervisors

  • Staying on task and completing duties efficiently with deadlines

  • Basic math skills to properly measure materials, calculate quantities, and read basic blueprints or plans

  • Working cooperatively with others to complete tasks and support other employees

  • Ability to adapt and adjust to changing tasks, weather conditions, and jobsite environments

  • Following instructions carefully and ensuring work is done safely and correctly

  • Recognizing hazards and following safety procedures to prevent accidents

  • Reliability and ability to show up on time, be dependable, and maintain a strong work either

  • Asking questions if unfamiliar with how to properly execute a task or tool to avoid costly mistakes

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to bend/lift/kneel/climb frequently

  • Push or pull objects greater than 100 pounds (objects, equipment, etc…)

  • Tolerate outdoor conditions, including varying weather, noise, general air conditions

  • Ability to work different shifts depending on the needs of the business

  • Potential for work on weekends/holidays depending on project scope and needs

  • Ability to be present at jobsite, vendor locations, offices, potential multiple locations in the same day

  • Walking and standing for extended periods of time

  • Possible requirements to use an electronic device such as a phone or tablet to record/document project progress, clock in/out for jobs

IT REQUIREMENTS:

  • General knowledge and understanding of Microsoft Office technology, mainly email correspondence and Teams meetings

  • Proficiency in software like Procore or SAGE, or similar construction management applications is a plus

  • Communication platforms such as Microsoft Teams or a similar platform

  • Experience with cloud storage solutions such as Dropbox is a plus

  • General ability to properly use a cellular phone/iPad or tablet/laptop for work will be beneficial for this position
