POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Ironworker at Greython plays a key role in the construction process and is responsible for installing and securing steel rebar and mesh used to reinforce concrete structures. This role involves interpreting blueprints and construction drawings to determine the correct placement and specifications for reinforcement materials. The Ironworker plays a critical part in ensuring the structural integrity of foundations, walls, columns, and other concrete elements.
In this position, the Ironworker’s tasks include cutting, bending, and tying rebar using hand tools and power equipment. Coordination with concrete crews is essential to align reinforcement with scheduled pours. Adherence to OSHA safety guidelines and the use of proper personal protective equipment (PPE) are mandatory. The work requires physical strength, precision, and the ability to perform in various weather conditions and environments.
Additional responsibilities include assisting with formwork setup and collaborating with other trades to meet project deadlines. Strong communication and teamwork contribute to maintaining efficiency and quality on the jobsite. Experience with large-scale commercial or infrastructure projects is preferred. The Ironworker position also requires knowledge and experience with concrete setting and pouring and may be asked to assist with general concrete work at jobsites when necessary.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Accurate lay out and position rebar according to engineering drawings and specifications to ensure proper structural support

Load, unload, and organize steel reinforcement materials on site, ensuring efficient access and minimal waste or damage to those materials

Safety rig and hoist rebar bundles using cranes or other lifting equipment, following strict safety protocols
-
Perform welding or mechanical splicing of rebar when required to meet structural continuity standards
-
Utilize tape measures, laser levels, and other precision tools to verify dimensions and alignment of reinforcement
-
Collaborate with concrete crews to ensure reinforcement is properly placed and secured before pouring
-
Conduct visual inspections of installed rebar to identify defects, misalignments, or safety hazards
-
Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and any issues encountered during installation
-
Ensure all work complies with local building codes, engineering standards, and project specifications
-
Assist in training new hires in safe and effective ironworking techniques
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

High School Diploma or GED
-
Completion of OSHA 10-hour construction safety course is encouraged
-
Vocational or trade school training for blueprint reading, welding, or structural design may provide a strong foundation for this position

Experience using hand and power tools or familiarity with use
-
Previous experience working with a team and taking direction from others such as more experienced co-workers and supervisors

Apprenticeship program with 3-4 years of classroom and on-the-job training
-
3-5 years of extensive experience working with rebar, concrete reinforcement on large scale construction projects
KNOWLEDGE | SKILLS | ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Ability to interpret structural drawings and rebar placement plans

Skilled in cutting, bending, tying, and placing reinforcement steel

Knowledge of concrete pour timing and reinforcement integration

Competent with rebar benders, cutters, tying tools, and hoisting gear

Basic math skills for accurate measurements, spacing, and layout

Capable of lifting heavy materials and working in demanding conditions

Strong understanding of OSHA standards and jobsite safety practices
-
Ability to work effectively with crews and other trades and subcontractors
-
Quick thinking to resolve layout or material issues on-site
-
Ensures precise placement and secure tying of rebar
-
Comfortable working in changing environments and under tight deadlines
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to bend/lift/kneel/climb frequently

Push or pull objects greater than 100 pounds (objects, equipment, etc…)

Tolerate outdoor conditions, including varying weather, noise, general air conditions

Ability to work different shifts depending on the needs of the business

Potential for work on weekends/holidays depending on project scope and needs

Ability to be present at jobsite, vendor locations, offices, potential multiple locations in the same day

Walking and standing for extended periods of time

Possible requirements to use an electronic device such as a phone or tablet to record/document project progress, clock in/out for jobs
IT REQUIREMENTS:

General knowledge and understanding of Microsoft Office technology, mainly email correspondence and Teams meetings

Proficiency in software like Procore or SAGE, or similar construction management applications is a plus
-
Communication platforms such as Microsoft Teams or a similar platform
-
Experience with cloud storage solutions such as Dropbox is a plus
-
General ability to properly use a cellular phone/iPad or tablet/laptop for work will be beneficial for this position
