POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Concrete Technician plays a critical role in the planning, preparation, and execution of concrete work across residential, commercial, and industrial construction projects. Responsibilities include mixing, placing, and finishing concrete according to project specifications and industry standards. The Concrete Technician also performs quality control tests such as slump, air content, and compressive strength to ensure material performance and compliance.
Work involves setting and stripping formwork, operating concrete vibrators, and applying curing compounds to achieve desired finishes and durability. Technicians may specialize in precast, cast-in-place, decorative, or structural concrete applications depending on project needs. Safe operation f equipment such as scissor lifts, boom lifts, and concrete pumps is essential, especially when working at heights or in confined spaces. Knowledge of admixtures, reinforcement placement, and surface treatments enhances the Concrete Technician’s ability to deliver high-quality results.
A successful Concrete Technician demonstrates strong attention to detail, physical stamina, and a commitment to safety- particularly when working on ladders, scaffolding, or elevated platforms. The role also includes site cleanup, tool maintenance, and coordination with other trades to ensure smooth workflow. The Concrete Technician contributes to the strength, stability, and appearance of construction projects, making their work foundational to every build they execute.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Prepare and pour concrete mixtures according to specified ratios and project requirements, ensuring consistency and quality

Install and dismantle formwork systems to shape concrete structures, ensuring proper alignment and support

Smooth, level, and texture concrete surfaces using hand and power tools and equipment to achieve desired finishes

Conduct field tests such as slump, air content, and compressive strength to verify concrete performance and compliance with standards

Place and secure rebar, mesh, or other reinforcement materials to strengthen concrete structures
-
Safely operate concrete-related machinery including mixers, vibrators, scissor lifts, boom lifts, and concrete pumps

Follow safety protocols when working on ladders, scaffolding, and elevated platforms; use PPE and handle materials responsibly

Measure and mix additives or admixtures to modify concrete properties for specific applications

Collaborate with supervisors, engineers, and other trades to ensure efficient workflow and timely project completion

Clean tools, equipment, and work areas after tasks are completed; maintain machinery to ensure long-term functionality

Ability to report daily updates to supervisors on project progress and potential needs or issues
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

High School Diploma or GED
-
Vocational or technical training preferred in concrete, construction technology, or building trades, with hands-on instruction
-
Apprenticeship programs, typically 3-4 years, combining classroom and on-the-job training
-
2-5 years of extensive painting experience
-
Completion of OSHA 10-hour construction safety course is encouraged
-
Previous experience or knowledge in the construction or similar trade industry is a plus

Experience or familiarity using hand and powered concrete equipment
-
Previous experience working with a team and taking direction from others such as more experienced co-workers and supervisors
KNOWLEDGE | SKILLS | ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Ability to lift materials and perform repetitive tasks

Ability to operate concrete mixers, pumps, vibrators, and concrete and general construction hand tools

Ability to understand instructions and communicate clearly with team members and supervisors

Staying on task and completing duties efficiently with deadlines

Basic math skills to properly measure materials, calculate quantities, and read basic blueprints or plans

Working cooperatively with others to complete tasks and support other employees

Ability to adapt and adjust to changing tasks, weather conditions, and jobsite environments

Following instructions carefully and ensuring work is done safely and correctly

Recognizing hazards and following safety procedures to prevent accidents

Reliability and ability to show up on time, be dependable, and maintain a strong work either

Asking questions if unfamiliar with how to properly execute a task or tool to avoid costly mistakes
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to bend/lift/kneel/climb frequently
-
Push or pull objects greater than 100 pounds (objects, equipment, etc…)

Tolerate outdoor conditions, including varying weather, noise, general air conditions

Ability to work different shifts depending on the needs of the business

Potential for work on weekends/holidays depending on project scope and needs

Ability to be present at jobsite, vendor locations, offices, potential multiple locations in the same day

Walking and standing for extended periods of time
-
Possible requirements to use an electronic device such as a phone or tablet to record/document project progress, clock in/out for jobs
IT REQUIREMENTS:

General knowledge and understanding of Microsoft Office technology, mainly email correspondence and Teams meetings

Proficiency in software like Procore or SAGE, or similar construction management applications is a plus

Communication platforms such as Microsoft Teams or a similar platform
-
Experience with cloud storage solutions such as Dropbox is a plus
-
General ability to properly use a cellular phone/iPad or tablet/laptop for work will be beneficial for this position
